Austin Mutual Aid is a grassroots organization whose mission is to empower and sustain vibrant, joyful, resilient communities. We do this by prioritizing the power of long-term, two-way relationships of exchange. We believe in the principles of solidarity, mutual aid, and autonomous direct action. By working with, listening to, and seeking leadership from impacted communities, especially the most vulnerable and historically underserved members, we build long-term, sustainable communities that can weather any storm.
City of Austin Homeless Alert: Cold Weather Shelter (CWS) Status
With temperatures forecasted to dip into the 30s overnight Sunday into Monday morning, the City of Austin will open overnight Cold Weather Shelters (CSW) Sunday night, Jan. 5, 2025. Cold Weather Shelters will continue to be available each night through at least Thursday, Jan. 9.
Registration for shelter will occur each day between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at One Texas Center (OTC), 505 Barton Springs Road. This will act as the central embarkation point for individuals seeking overnight shelter.
Help Spread the Word About Cold Weather Shelters (CWS)
Let’s come together to support our neighbors living outside during freezing conditions. When temperatures drop to 35°F or below, Cold Weather Shelters (CWS) are activated.
Please print the flyers (available in English and Spanish) and fill in the activation date. Keep a few in your car or bag, so you’re ready to share them when CWS is activated. By handing these out, you can make a meaningful difference in someone's life.
